Before monetizing your blog, you should always work on creating great free content (to help build trust!) and map out an overall income strategy.  Start to think of your blog as not just a hobby, but a business… because once you start earning money from your blog, you are no longer a hobby blogger, you are operating a small business.
With that in mind, here are some of the most lucrative ways to start earning money from your blog, and they don’t involve setting up CPC ads (more on that later…):

If you want to look good to recruiters, establish yourself as an expert, and help other people, then a blog can do nothing but good things for you.

Do you know what I did that made all the difference?

It has little to do with technology and everything to do with people.
Show up every day (or as often as you commit to show up), and give it your best. Work ahead, don’t make room for excuses, and ship.
For me, this meant writing two-hour articles instead of 20-minute ones. It meant making time to write and not taking my audience for granted. Give it your all. Leave nothing on the table. Do work you are proud of.

With the above in mind, it’s such a huge shame that many people hit a stumbling block when it comes to creating their blog.
They either try their best but find the process too complicated, or simply assume they are not “technical” enough to create their own blog and give up before they’ve even tried.

If that sounds like you, let me assure you that nothing could be further from the truth. Creating a blog can be complicated – if you don’t know the best tools to use (and how to use them) – but with the right guidance, even the least “technical” of people will find that creating a blog is a piece of cake.

That’s why I have written this step-by-step guide to creating your first blog. I’ve detailed every single thing you need to do in order to build your first blog – from purchasing a domain name and hosting, to installing the blogging software you’ll need, to even writing and publishing your first blog post.
Best of all, creating your first blog will take you a minimum of just 23 clicks. Seriously – I counted the number of clicks it took me to do it.
Let’s get started!
Before you do anything at all, you need to create a strategy that will help to make your blog successful.
Spending time planning will keep you from wasting time and money on a blog and topic that does not have a following. You need to ask yourself the following questions:
  • What is your blog’s primary niche?
  • What is your blog’s purpose? How will you make money from your blog? (Advertising, Marketing, Products)
  • How many competitors are in your market?
  • What will make your site stand out from the crowd?
  • How will you generate traffic for your site?
  • How much money do you expect your site to generate?
This is the stage where you select your niche and start doing your research. You need to do topic planning, keyword research, and market strategizing.

2. Select A Great Domain Name

The next step in the website creation process is to select a domain name. Domain names are very cheap and can be purchased for $9.99 or less. Selecting a name may sound easy, but you may find that it takes hours to find a name that you like and one that is available. It is important to put plenty of time into the thought process for your domain name because you cannot change it later. If you pick a poor domain name then you are stuck with it.
When I launched my first website, I spent a few hours writing different names down on paper until I had a list of about eight or nine that I liked. I then narrowed that list down to my top three. I finally settled on Buy Like Buffett because I found the name to be catchy and it summed up the focus of my entire blog. I figured that I could pattern all of my marketing efforts around the site later on.
It is normally best if you can get an exact match domain name if possible. Exact match domains are great for helping your site to rank easier for specific keywords and are useful if they sum up your blog’s focus. If an exact match domain is not available for your site, don’t worry about it. You can still get your site to rank highly in the search engines. In future posts, I will talk more about how to do SEO for your own website.
